The Bestest Beyonce Impersonation Ever!

Some of you may not know this.
But I'm a HUGE fan of Beyonce.
Her music, her fashion, her dancing and her HAIR tend to mesmerize me.
There's been no other female like her since Diana Ross.

I say all that, to say, Beyonce has also transcended genres thanks to my favoritest clip FOREVER.

I'm back......

Late December and early January were quite busy for me. So that's why I've been kinda MIA (missing in action)!

The Saturday after Christmas, I flew to NY to spend time with my family and a few friends. Then I flew to Atlanta to be with TMIL for New Years. We had a good time. I relaxed A LOT. Then we ran into some car problems on the way back to Jackson.

Then I got right back to work and did another "Who's Accountable" report. This idea came from an e-mail I received from a woman I'll call Tasha, who's been STUCK in her marriage for years. She wanted to know Who's Accountable for the law that won't allow her to get a divorce unless her "so called husband" agrees.

My friends Angela and Jeanine have been harassing me about NOT being on it. So now I'm catching up with tons of classmates from Mizzou and NB class of 91!

But it's time for me to watch the Inauguration of the 44th president!

Should I let Will disappoint me again?

The last two Will Smith movies I've seen have been lackluster in my opinion.

'I Am Legend' had a horrible ending.

'Hancock' had a good thing going then it took a left turn to Albuquerque.

But now I'm intrigued by his newest film, 'Seven Pounds'. I saw him talk about the film on Oprah a few weeks ago.

And then after I watched this clip from CNN I got the sense that it will have a The Sixth Sense/M. Night Shyamalan type twist to it in the end:

When I got a day off a few weeks ago, I took time to clear out some clutter: approximately 30 stuffed animals!

I'd collected them over 15+ years from ex-boyfriends and my Mom. But I realized they were just taking up space on the my guest bedroom floor. Mom said she was cool if I gave them away. My sister, Veronica, said she'd given my niece's old animals to the children's hospital in her area.

A quick call to Blair E. Batson's Children's hospital revealed, the hospital doesn't take used toys, just new ones. They don't have the facilities to proper disinfect the toys. So I tried MS Children's Home which handles foster care and group homes. Again a no go!

So I called the Good Samaritan Center on Millsaps Avenue(http://goodsamaritancenter.org/) and found out they would take the used toys.

I was greeted by the nicest staff and got to see their store NUTS, Neat Used Things for Sale.
I hope my toys are put to good use - either in a crisis situation for a child who needs to feel comfortable - or for someone who just needs a gift for a little one.

Wow!
It's going on almost two weeks since I was able to post here.
MY BAD.
I've been busy selling stuff on Craigslist and Ebay because I'm really trying to declutter my house. Some stuff has been given away or sold in garage sales (http://joycebrewer.blogspot.com/2008/11/hidden-cash-in-garage-sales.html). But checking the status of Ebay sales and driving to meet folks who bought your Craigslist items takes time.

I've also been back and forth to Atlanta to see TMIL (The Man I Love).

Holding Dads Accountable

On the right is a picture of Victor (a big) and his mentee, Isaiah (a little). They're not related but the goal of their match through Big Brothers Big Sisters is to help Isaiah have a male he can model, learn from, and emulate. I've been a big for almost five years for my little, Shalakkeia.

I had the pleasure of meeting them last week while I was was working on a story about too parents not being accountable for their children. Assistant Jackson police chief Lee Vance called for dads in particular to step up. Sadly, too many dads don't. And there aren't enough male mentors to go around either. For instance, Isaiah waited a year to be matched with Victor.
