I answered the phone in the newsroom around 2 p.m. Tuesday and this is what happened:
CALLER: Can you tell me what happened to that black girl who anchored the news with Scott Simmons at 6 o'clock?
ME: You mean Joyce Brewer?
CALLER: Yeah
ME: This is Joyce!
CALLER: Oh I thought something happened to you!
ME: Today is my first day back. Be sure to watch tonight, OK?
CALLER: O.K. I will
I couldn't make this up if I tried!
